TRT for men is designed to restore testosterone that has declined with natural aging, usually starting between 35 and 50 years old, or health-related factors. Labeling changes occurred in February 2025 reflecting the cardiovascular safety profile for TRT. In studies, testosterone has been found to reduce mortality rates by 50% in men with testosterone deficiency and men who received TRT with normalized levels had reduced rates of cardiac events/mortality compared to men with persistent low T. At the end of 2025, an FDA expert panel also met and recommended removing unsupported prostate cancer warnings from TRT labels as well.
